Unhappy Mother’s Day

The latest variant of the “Love Bug” computer virus could be even more dangerous than the original, because it tugs at purse strings rather than heartstrings. Titled “Mother’s Day Order Confirmation,” the virus arrives in an e-mail announcing that the victim’s credit card has been charged $326.92 for a “Mother’s Day diamond special” and asking the user to click on an icon to get an invoice. Clicking on the attached “mothersday.vbs” icon infects them with the virus. The e-mail is a lie; no credit card has been charged, said Richard Jacobs, president of anti-viral company Sophos.
